New Fears by Jasmine Sylvia James

When I was 7, I feared the dark

The monsters under the bed and skeletons in the closet

So I slept with a night light

When I was 14, I feared losing my sight

The flowers I would never see and faces I would never meet

So I spent every possible moment under the sun

When I turned 21, I now fear silence

The thoughts that would be given a voice and space to be heard

So I now live with constant noise
