In Search of Light

A Poem by Morgan Walker, December 14, 2020

Let us commit to create

light in darkness.

But do you understand?

I mean let us first look inward

to the suffocation of prejudice

ramming against the walls of our ribcages

and barreling to the roofs of our mouths.

Let us dissect the parasite and dismantle

every pinched nerve, twisted

muscle, and crooked bone until

we are free from its threats.

Upon thorough examination,

let us restore what has been broken.

Mending the narrative that we know

to be wrong.

Do you understand?

Only through confrontation

of evil can we expect to find virtue.

Pockets of light to scatter and share

and suppose that we will be better soon.

Let us labor beyond the dark cover

of ignorance in hopes of unified

understanding. And if not understanding,

perhaps just recognition.

Then we will remember to

find one another and listen

to the places our hearts have traveled,

now emerging into curative light.
